I am a young and ambitious, and experienced interdisciplinary researcher, working in the exciting, emerging field of nanobiotechnology at the interface between nanomaterials and biological systems.
I am also passionate about teaching, public outreach, and widening participation in STEM subjects.
Currently I work as a postdoctoral research assistant in the Materials Physics group at the University of Sussex, within the Nanobiotechnology group, see my profile here!
You may have seen me present my work at various international research conferences and seminars around the world. So far, these include:
ACS Spring Meeting 2022, in San Diego, USA
Nanotexnology 2022, in Thessaloniki, Greece
Open Dialogues across Physics and Astronomy 2022, in Southampton, UK
HeteroNanoCarb 2023, in Benasque, Spain
NanoteC23, in Brighton, UK
Department of Physics Seminar at the University of Vienna, Austria, in 2023
I have a passion for teaching, and have loved teaching throughout my research career. So far, this has included the following experience at the University of Sussex:
Workshop Tutor for the Physics International Summer School - 2019
Associate Tutor for Oscillations, Waves and Optics - 2019/20
Associate Tutor for Mechanics & Relativity, and Oscillations, Waves and Optics - 2020/21
Senior DT workshop support for the Physics International Summer School - 2022
Deputy lab supervisor for the Physics International Summer School - 2023
In particular, I believe that some of the most important skills and understanding are taught early into undergraduate courses, building a strong platform from which deeper and more complex knowledge can develop.
Moreover, I firmly believe that providing a route to studying physics for those from non-conventional routes, as well as widening participation in physics at this level, is of paramount importance to universities, and to the broader academic and research communities; and therefore that foundations year programmes, outreach events, and widening participation schemes are invaluable.
My passion for teaching inspired me to pursue accreditation as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), awarded in November 2021. My essays and discussion that were assessed in recognition of my AFHEA qualification can be found below.
